Our current training is on hold due to the COVID pandemic.

At Chellow Heights we are committed to providing training opportunities for all.

Training for staff

We are committed to providing a highly qualified workforce through staff development. All staff, no matter what role they play can have support for their professional development. This may take many forms such as visits to other schools to talk to other practitioners, in house courses, external courses, online training. It is linked to our Professional Development and Appraisal system ‘ASPIRE’ which supports staff to develop their core skills in working with pupils with SEND and if they wish to specialise in a particular area of SEND.

We also are involved in the Annual DAP training day when all practitioners from special schools across Bradford work together in a range of training and development sessions.

Training for parents and carers

Parents and carers are always encouraged to develop their knowledge and skills. We will support you in any way we can.

We can offer you training and support in

  • Makaton
  • The use of a range of communication systems both high tech and lite tech AAC
  • Behaviour Management

and a range of other areas. Just ask at the school.

Most of our training is delivered in school at our Family and Friends Support Group sessions on Wednesday mornings.

Training for students and volunteers

We can offer opportunities for training on courses and through placement opportunities for students on

  • high school work experience placement
  • as part of a university or 6th form placement
  • teaching practice
  • health provision placements and
  • return to work opportunities

Please contact us for more information.

Please note: Safeguarding is vital, ALL adults who work in school on placements must have an enhanced CRB check completed prior to placement.

Training in the community

Currently, we are the lead school in Bradford and District for specialist teacher training for teachers wishing to specialise in SEND teaching. We are delivering this in conjunction with Leeds Trinity University.

We also provide input to Leeds University on the role of SEND schools in Education and on Behaviour Management.

Occasionally, we support other community groups, schools or professionals with training in communication, behaviour management, and Team Teach.

For more information please contact the school.
