School to school Support

At Chellow Heights, we believe that we have an important role to play not only in supporting the pupils who attend our school, but also in sharing our specialist knowledge and expertise with mainstream schools.

We believe that effective SEND support works best when schools work together. Our specialist staff can support mainstream colleagues to develop inclusive practice, identify needs earlier and put appropriate strategies in place so that children and young people can access education successfully in their local community.

How we can support mainstream schools:

Our outreach and partnership work can include:

  • Specialist advice and guidance for teachers, SENCOs and support staff.
  • Staff training and professional development relating to SEND, including autism, communication and interaction, sensory needs; as well as cognition and learning.
  • Classroom observations and consultations to help schools understand individual pupils’ needs and identify practical strategies.
  • Advice on reasonable adjustments, accessible learning environments and adaptations to teaching and the curriculum.
  • Support with positive behaviour and communication strategies, using a child-centred and evidence-informed approach.
  • Transition support for pupils moving between mainstream and specialist provision.
  • Sharing resources and good practice to strengthen inclusive teaching.
  • Short-term specialist input, where appropriate, to help a mainstream school develop its capacity to meet a pupil’s needs.
  • Opportunities for mainstream colleagues to observe practice at Chellow Heights.

We are committed to working with mainstream schools to share expertise, develop staff confidence and improve inclusive practice.

By working together, we believe that we can help ensure that children and young people with SEND receive the right support, at the right time, in the right educational environment.
