Communication

At Chellow Heights, communication is central to learning. Pupils are supported to develop expressive and receptive communication through spoken language, visual communication systems and structured interaction. Staff use a range of approaches to support pupils to communicate their needs, choices and ideas.

Literacy

Literacy teaching focuses on developing early reading, writing and communication skills. Pupils are supported to develop phonics, comprehension and mark-making skills appropriate to their stage of development.

Maths

Mathematics learning focuses on practical understanding of number, shape, space and measure. Pupils develop mathematical understanding through structured activities, real-life experiences and problem-solving opportunities.

PSHE

Personal, Social and Health Education supports pupils to develop confidence, independence and understanding of the world around them. Pupils learn about relationships, wellbeing, safety and personal development.

Physical Development

Physical development supports pupils’ movement, coordination and physical wellbeing. Pupils develop gross and fine motor skills through structured activities, physical education and therapeutic support where appropriate.
